A cruise liner crash which left three crew dead and more than 1,400 passengers shaken and distressed may have been caused by bad weather.
The Costa Europa liner crashed into the pier at the Red Sea port town of Safaga in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. Three crew members have died, while one sailor and three British women were taken to hospital following the incident on Friday morning.
Holiday and travel claim specialist Katherine Allen said she expected many of the passengers to launch a compensation claim after the 55,000 tonne vessel - which had been sailing from Dubai to Savona in Italy - hit the pavement of the dock during high winds, causing a sizeable hole in the right side of the ship.
"The passengers on this ship have been through quite an ordeal," said Katherine, an Associate with personal injury specialists Fentons. "Not only have some suffered quite serious injuries as a result of the crash, but many will be struggling to come to terms with this tragic event which has led to three deaths," she said.
"While most of the passengers are now being accommodated in Egyptian hotels, many will be entitled to compensation."
